Attorney Robert C. Gigstad Becomes a Member of the National College for DUI Defense

|

At the Gigstad Law Office, LLC, we invest a significant portion of our practice in defending individuals against accusations of driving under the influence of alcohol and other intoxicants. As an Overland Park DUI attorney who is 100% committed to providing the best defense representation available, attorney Robert C. Gigstad has recently become a member of the National College for DUI Defense®, Inc.

The National College for DUI Defense®, Inc. (NCDD) is a professional, non-profit corporation that is dedicated to improving the criminal defense bar, and to disseminating information to the public about DUI defense law, as a specialty area of legal practice. College members represent the most sophisticated and experienced DUI defense lawyers in the nation. The College's general members are the backbone of the college and are some of the most capable attorneys who dedicate a portion of their practice to the defense of DUI cases throughout the United States.

There are few offenses in our criminal justice system that call for greater attorney expertise than cases involving driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. DUI cases are especially complex because they require defense counsel to be knowledgeable in both scientific and legal processes associated with DUI. These issues encompass a wide range of areas including search and seizure, due process, illegal interrogation, and evidentiary problems. These legal issues are closely tied into scientific expertise such as anatomy, biology, toxicology and chemistry to name a few, as well as pseudo-scientific areas such as field sobriety tests. DUI defense attorneys must also be knowledgeable in the operation of breath testing equipment, hospital testing equipment and instruments used by forensic laboratories in the processing and testing of intoxicant.

Since DUI defense is highly involved, it is the mission of the National College for DUI Defense® to provide state of the art training to the DUI defense practitioner. Each year the College offers or co-sponsors a minimum of four legal and scientific seminars, with the Summer Session being conducted at Harvard Law School in July. The Summer Session; for example, is the College's signature program and designed to develop trial skills, and this includes methods for attacking field sobriety tests and blood tests and for cross-examining police officers and prosecutors.

As an enthusiastic and aggressive Overland Park DUI attorney, Robert Gigstad values his membership into the National College for DUI Defense® and is looking forward to participating in the College's legal and scientific seminars and applying what he learns to his criminal defense practice.
