Memorial Day Weekend DUI Checkpoint Update: 5/25 - 5/28

Memorial Day Weekend is always a busy party weekend, and that means more DUI checkpoints. Here are the ones that have been announced so far:

1. The Independence Missouri Police Department will conduct a DUI sobriety checkpoint and saturation patrol on Friday, May 25th. The special enforcement efforts will be in an area of Independence where alcohol-related arrests and crashes are prevalent. Police said the goal is to identify and arrest drunk drivers before they injure themselves or someone else.

2. Kansas City Missouri Police announced they will conduct a DUI sobriety checkpoint sometime this weekend at a location known for alcohol-related crashes or arrests. Their DUI checkpoint will take place sometime between Friday night and Sunday night. Signs will notify motorists of the checkpoint. Police will direct drivers to an area where an officer can determine whether they should they should be tested for sobriety with Field Sobriety Tests .

Also, The Overland Park, Kansas Police Department will be conducting a Memorial Day “Click It or Ticket” Campaign from May 21st, 2012 through June 3rd, 2012. This task is being conducted with the principle focus on Child Seat Restraints and Seat belt enforcement. Officers will be aggressively enforcing Kansas occupant restraints and other traffic laws as part of the 2012 Kansas Click It or Ticket traffic enforcement Campaign. This activity is supported by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation. I saw motorcycle police handing these tickets out like crazy yesterday, so people wear your seatbelts!

We will post additional information as we receive it. Have a safe and fun Memorial Day Weekend!
