Kansas City Area DUI Checkpoint Update: 5/10/13 - 5/12/13

Here's what we know so far for this weekend, as always we will update as we learn more:

1. The Overland Park Police Department has announced that they will be conducting their first DUI checkpoint / checklane of the year, along with the help of the Kansas Highway Patrol. It will be on Friday, May 10th, 2013. They will hold a briefing at the Myron Scaife Building near downtown Overland Park before setting up the checkpoint at an undisclosed location. It will likely start around 10 p.m. and run until around 2 a.m. All drivers will be briefly interviewed by an officer. Drivers who appear to be impaired will be asked to perform field sobriety tests, and take a Preliminary Breath Test. If you take these tests, and fail you may be requested to perform further chemical testing, and charged with DUI.

2. The Independence Missouri Police Dept. has also announced that they will be conducting both a DUI checkpoint, and a DUI saturation patrol this weekend. They did not announce specific locations or times.

Remember it's always safest and cheapest to designate a driver or take a cab. And feel free to read our article on Field Sobriety Testing here.

If you or someone you know has been charged with a DUI or other criminal charges in Kansas contact our office in Overland Park today.
