KC Police Offering Free Breathalyzer Tests in Waldo Bar District Tonight.

The Kansas City Police Department is taking preventative action to combat Drunk Driving this Friday night, October 12th, 2012. They are going to have multiple officers stationed around the Waldo Bar District in Kansas City, MO, near 75th and Wornall offering free breathalyzer tests to people to see an estimation of what B.A.C. (Blood Alcohol Content). This is a nice change of pace in my opinion from the repeated DUI checkpoints that they conduct about every other weekend. See the story from the Kansas City Star below:

"Kansas City police want alcohol drinkers to “know their limits,” so officers will offer free Breathalyzer tests to patrons in the Waldo bar district tonight.

There will be no tickets or repercussions for participants regardless of their blood-alcohol levels, police said.

In an effort to prevent drunken driving, police want to educate people about their blood-alcohol content and how their bodies process alcohol. Officers will set up six mobile testing units from 7 to 11 p.m. near 75th Street and Wornall Road.

“The point is to let people know what their limits are by voluntarily blowing into the tubes with no repercussions,” Capt. Bob Zimmerman said in a press release. “Some people think they can handle liquor better than they actually can.”

Kansas City police borrowed the idea from Scottsdale, Ariz., which started the Know Your Limits program in 2009. This is the first such event in Kansas City."

As always the best way to avoid getting a DUI is simply not to drink and drive. It's much safer and cheaper to take a cab or arrange a DD. However, if you or someone you know has been charged with a DUI or other criminal charges in Kansas (Both Misdemeanors and Felonies), contact our office in Overland Park, KS today for a free case evaluation with an experienced Criminal Defense Attorney.
